Finally, a rare update!
For the first time in years, I'm actually excited about going to a Halloween costume party. Last year I went to the annual pharmacy party wearing an odd cross between a Roman stola and a white shift dress belted with a gold-tone and pearl chain belt, covered by a green velvet hooded cloak, pinned by my Fellowship Leaf Brooch. It was pretty, but I couldn't decide what I was really supposed to be.
This year, thanks to a brilliant idea from tenebris, I'll be dressing as Hermione Granger. I plan to use my black robe from my first college graduation, coupled with various Gryffindor items purchased from Ebay such as the tie, house patch for the robes, scarf, and replica of Hermione's wand. I'd love to spring for the Time Turner replica, but the version sold by The Noble Collection doesn't ship until *after* Halloween, and most of the ebay versions would cost me over $50. Ouch. I can make due just fine without it. The true challenge for me (besides trying to make my normally straight and fine hair look bushy and curly) will be finding a grey v-neck sweater and grey knee-length pleated skirt to wear under the robes. Luckily, the robes are long enough that I can omit the skirt and just wear shorts if I'm desparate, but I have the perfect black Mary Jane shoes that I'm just dying to wear with the Hermione skirt. I am going to have so much fun with this project, it almost makes up for me being too lazy to ever make myself a Legolas outfit. :)
