Lady Korana...homeowner! [Apr. 28th, 2007|12:54 am]

It's official...I own my own house!

Actually, it feels rather surreal. I've been living in dorms and then apartments for so many years, I can hardly believe that after all the time and effort (and sometimes alarming amounts of money) I put into every detail, from countertop patterns and cabinet hardware/wood/color/style/etc, to paint and trim colors, outlet placement to towel bars (and on and on), this beautiful home is actually mine. I signed tons of papers today, then went out to a celebratory lunch at Panera. Then I kinda drove home in a daze, all the while fingering my new set of house keys. By home, I still mean the apartment, though I stopped at my house on the way there to pick up my garage door opener and make sure the keys work.

I won't be moving for a few weeks yet, as I have 3 weeks off work in the middle of May and I'm going to move then. Yay for the 7-on, 7-off schedule...the only way I could ever hope to get a three week block off! I plan on moving most of my stuff over gradually in bags and small trips, since I'm moving all of a whopping 5-6 minutes away. That way, I only have to pay a mover to move the bedroom furniture, big tv, desks, couch, and recliner.

I'm so happy that sirenprincess is coming to visit me on Saturday! The new house is great, but it's so much better that I'll have someone to share my excitement with this weekend. Who cares if I should really spend the weekend sorting out clothes I want to donate and junk I don't want to move? I'm going to hang with my best friend and enjoy it! So there, packing obligations!

I promise I'll try to get some pictures of the new house up soon. It was cloudy when I took many of my pictures so I'd like to get some ones with better lighting when the next sunny period rolls around again.

Thanks! Despite the surreal feeling of disbelief that it's actually my house, I am very excited. I'm also really looking forward to the extra privacy of not having to share apartment walls with any neighbors, worrying about keeping them up at night, etc. Plus, no more yearly rent hikes and limits on the number of cats I can have! The more I think about it, the more glad I am that I went through with this.

That's so fantastic! Congrats to you!!!
I would never want to own a newly built home, but I'm sure it's really wonderful having everything built exactly how you want it. Very cool.
I hope your move goes smoothly (when I moved across town I did the same thing- taking over boxes and boxes of stuff and then having movers do the big stuff in an hour or two) and I hope that you have a fun weekend! *waves hi to sirenprincess* Congrats!
