ROTK: Purchased, seen, enjoyed.

A few quick non-spoiler-ish comments before I have to dash to work:
-Faramir. He got all the best new scenes, IMHO. Such a gorgeous man and a lovely, sensitive, honorable character. Marry me.
-Legolas & Gimli. They've got way more screen time now. Legolas, though still not having his character expanded upon much, benefitted from this screen time. Gimli did not. They have one lovely, beautifully-canon exchange on horseback that I'm in love with. The comic material..*sigh*...they weren't bad to start off with, but PJ pushed the humor just a little too far into the degrading area regarding Gimli. If these scenes were dialed back just a bit, I would have had zero problems with them. Finally, Legolas in the Paths of the Dead, and afterwards: I love you, my spine-tinglingly sexy, delicous Elf. I want to have your babies...if I can manage to pick myself up from the floor first!
-Aragorn. Good stuff. More emotional and kingly. And the new scene with him and Legolas in close proximity is a h/c lover's dream!
-Merry and Pippin. HILARIOUS! Moving. Adorable. Enough said. I can't wait to listen to the actor's commentary track.
-Frodo and Sam. GREAT new scenes. The trip through Mordor seems much more realistic now. And I hate Gollum even more now.

Ok, out of time for now. I would just like to take this last moment to offer my profuse thanks to whatever deity/muse/random burst of neural activity decided to provide me with such delicious LOTR-actor-related dreams last night. Suffice it to say, it involved hanging out with Dom and Billy, as well as Craig Parker and David Wenham, and concluded with Orlando and myself cuddling on the bed*swoon* I'd like a second helping tonight please!

I agree with you COMPLETELY! I read enough before I avoided spoilers to know that PJ had continued to use Gimli for laughs... which bugs the HECK out of me at times. So I was prepared for that. I was very happy with it over-all, though!

-Faramir...
YES! I was thinking that every moment he was on screen. Leave Aragorn to his elf... I would definitely have chosen Faramir after his performance in this version!

-Legolas & Gimli. They've got way more screen time now. Legolas, though still not having his character expanded upon much
GRRR! I mean, about the lack of expansion. Though when he's looking at the ships, the expression on his face says to me: This is bad... but Ohhhh the sea! It's not as "oh no!" as the others' expressions... and to me, who was longing for just a little bit of sea longing, that jumped out at me. But I'm sure it wasn't intentional. I'm just desperate. LOL

Legolas benefitted from this screen time. Gimli did not. They have one lovely, beautifully-canon exchange on horseback that I'm in love with
I LOVE THAT PART! Knowing that Gimli was going to be comic relief so much, I was overjoyed at that exchange... I could write PAGES about that scene. There's SO much to it that I liked. And I was thrilled to see some seriousness and concern there amidst all the added comedy elements in other places.

The comic material..*sigh*...they weren't bad to start off with, but PJ pushed the humor just a little too far into the degrading area regarding Gimli. If these scenes were dialed back just a bit, I would have had zero problems with them
I agree whole-heartedly. I love to death John's acting and portrayal of Gimli. And I think he did well with what he was supposed to do... but, yes, I got the feeling that PJ's direction was mostly to blame for the over-the-top-ness. Yes. Funny, but too far IMO as well.

Finally, Legolas in the Paths of the Dead, and afterwards...
I actually stopped and rewound many parts of that. I was thrilled to see the Paths finally. Got shivers at one point. But I rewound to watch Legolas looking back and ushering Gimli forward to go first so he'd be safe when they were running out of the passage. *dies* Little things like that... oh, or how Gimli gets spooked and calls for Legolas *EG* Ugh, sorry, I read slash into everything. But, yes, Legolas is so very, very sexy and wonderful throughout- especially those parts!

-Aragorn. Good stuff. More emotional and kingly. And the new scene with him and Legolas in close proximity is a h/c lover's dream!
I've been DYING to see that scene ever since that shoulder-squeeze pic and it turned out BETTER than I had hoped!! Not to mention that the height thing is fantastic to see- kneeling like that, Aragorn's head is perfectly in-line with Legolas'... ah... waist. Yes, that's it. Waist...
But, yes, more emotional and softer at times. I loved the changes/differences in his emotions and all throughout. I couldn't decide if that was because of the order they filmed some scenes in so his look was a little different at times, or if it was intended to be a complete change- which is what I like to see it as. But I could write a novel on this subject as well.

-Merry and Pippin. HILARIOUS! Moving. Adorable. Enough said. I can't wait to listen to the actor's commentary track.
Oohhh! Ditto!!! Loved the Merry & Aragorn bit after Pip leaves... and I loved so much more of Merry & Éowyn. And I ADORED Pippin and Faramir's scene- really made me FEEL why Pippin jumped into the fire to save him. But, yes, everything you said. More of exactly what I love about them.

-Frodo and Sam...
Exactly. And I sobbed like a baby when Sam lost his pack- as I knew I would. And sobbed at each repetition of the 'journey home afterwards' thing. Especially when Sam comes to realize there won't be a journey home... and then of course when Frodo realizes there is no going back even when he is back. GAH! I'm tearing up again. Going to stop now.

Point is, I agree with you completely. Loved it. It wasn't perfect, but it was closer to perfection for me. So that's good. (Was amused to see Boromir had made it into all three movies despite the fact that he dies in the first- LOL)

Oh, and I want your dreams! YUM!!!!
